Contributing to a bigger purpose
Since I joined SANBS in 2019 as a Human Capital Management (HCM) intern, I realised I was embarking on my first entry job with an enormously purposeful organisation, committed to staying true to its purpose of being “Trusted to Save Lives” with great enthusiasm. I have worked with a wonderful team in HCM and with SANBS staff in general. It is very special to work for SANBS and wake up each morning to know that you are going to contribute to saving lives. I have learnt a lot about blood transfusion by working at SANBS.
One of the most outstanding highlights of working for SANBS is when we launched the DNA culture programme where all zones nationwide connected and employees could share their experiences about SANBS and we could hear insights about the donor and patient experience of donating and receiving blood.

Embracing change
Since I joined SANBS there have been many changes, mostly implemented since the Covid-19 pandemic. Our working model had to change to a hybrid Model, with most staff working remotely.
However, this did not impact the continuous energy and enthusiasm of the SANBS people to deliver on their mandate and quickly adapt to these changes with ease.
We remained connected by hosting meetings virtually and continued development and training through online offerings.
The resilience of the SANBS community throughout Covid-19 and beyond has been outstanding as we all remain committed to the SANBS purpose of being “Trusted to Save Lives”.
